Increasing access to a wide variety of housing is one of our goals at the ABCDC. One of the ways we are trying to make a positive impact on the stability of the neighborhoods is to encourage the number of owner-occupied housing opportunities available in Allston and Brighton. Our All Bright Homeownership program aims to increase owner-occupancy by buying properties and selling those houses to individuals and families looking to make Allston Brighton home. This program seeks to support the growth of owner-occupancy and to strengthen the vibrancy of Allston Brighton.
Most recently, ABCDC bought a three-family house at 90 Easton Street in Allston. Our goal is to turn this house into three 2-bedroom, 2 bath condos which will offer more housing options to residents in the neighborhood. After finishing the renovation, we are going to sell the units with a deed-restriction to increase owner-occupancy in the neighborhood and make sure that whoever buys the condos actually lives there. This means more owner-occupied units and less absentee landlord owned properties which is really what everyone wants!
Over the past few months, our contractors have been working tirelessly to revamp the house to get it ready for the new owners. The units needed some work to ensure they are safe and updated, but we were up to the challenge! So far, we have gutted a good portion of the house to ensure that there is proper insulation and to accommodate upgrades in each of the future condo units. In the next month, we will add a new bathroom to each unit, update the kitchen and heating systems, refinish the floors, and paint all 3 condos.
There’s still a lot of work to be done, but we are so thankful for the hard work of our contractors. Stay tuned for more updates and pictures of the finished 90 Easton Street. We can’t wait to get the house ready for new families to move in and make Allston their forever home.
