We are pleased to announce that Allston Brighton CDC has received a Supportive Housing Funding Award through the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) to support the redevelopment of the Ashford Street Lodging House! ABCDC was awarded $1.5M as well as four project-based vouchers from the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (MRVP).
The Ashford Street Lodging House, located in Allston, is a 12-unit affordable, supportive housing site. Originally opened to house individuals impacted by the AIDS crisis, ABCDC now provides individuals with disabilities and formerly homeless people with safe, permanent, affordable housing. All the residents are low-income, earning at or below 30-80% of Area Median Income.
“We are pleased to be a recipient of funding for these much-needed repairs to our Ashford Street property,” remarked ABCDC’s Executive Director, John Woods. “Funding for supportive housing is pivotal in our community, and we look forward to upgrading the property and better serving the vulnerable residents who call this property home. We are thankful to EOHLC, Secretary Augustus, and the Healey-Driscoll administration’s work towards lowering housing costs across the Commonwealth.”
This funding will support the Deep Energy Retrofit (DER) at the site. Improvements will include a new roof, adding fresh air ventilation systems, all new electric heat pumps to provide heating and cooling, and additional insulation. This project is addressing the safety and well-being of current and future residents of these 12 units of affordable housing by making critical repairs and upgrades.
“We are thankful to leaders across the Commonwealth for this commitment to our community and our residents,” said ABCDC’s Director of Real Estate, Caitlin Robillard. “This funding is a pivotal piece in decarbonizing this building, which will not only reduce our carbon footprint but will also improve the health and well-being of our residents.”
