Please join us in welcoming our new Resident Services Intern, Makesha Mercedat (she/her/hers). Makesha is a first-year Master of Social Work student at Boston College. She graduated from Gordon College in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She was active in many organizations including AFRO Hamwe (Gordon College’s black student union), the school’s newspaper, and the dance ministry. Before her time with the Allston Brighton CDC, Makesha worked as a case coordinator at the North Shore Haitian Adult Day Center, which primarily served the Haitian elderly population. She is very active at her local church where her father serves as the senior pastor, serving in the young adult and children’s ministry. She is incredibly passionate about immigrant rights and hopes to one day be an advocate in political settings fighting for those rights, as well as developing policy around aiding immigrants. Makesha speaks fluent Haitian Creole. You can find her reading a book, exploring thrift shops, traipsing through a museum or gallery, traveling (when there is time), or watching movies with family and friends.
