Dear friends,
I hope you are staying safe and healthy during these complicated times. While the effects of the COVID 19 Pandemic have been difficult for our community, I am extremely proud to report that ABCDC has continued to support our neighborhoods by adjusting to the new conditions we are all facing. Our team has worked to adapt effective ways to uphold social distancing guidelines while continuing the very important work needed to serve the diverse needs of the Allston Brighton Community.
For 40 years, ABCDC has worked to build a more equitable neighborhood for all. In these unprecedented times, for many of our residents staying home can be a complicated request. Our tenants are struggling to make ends meet as more and more people lose their jobs and their livelihood. Now more than ever, our residents need a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home.
We are excited to announce that ABCDC was awarded $125,000 in CITC credits for 2020. A CITC donation is unique in that gifts of $1,000 or more are eligible for a 50% tax credit refund. Allston Brighton residents benefit from the full amount of your donation and you receive 50% back when you file your taxes. During this worldwide crisis, your donation will have a direct impact on the lives of our neighbors in Allston Brighton.
- Support residents in need: We offer wellness checks for the 1,000+ residents who live in our affordable rental housing. Our Resident Services staff is constantly working to support residents experiencing financial hardships by connecting families with emergency services and ensure that they remain in stable housing.
- Provide education for first-time homebuyers: Your donation will help make homeownership a possibility for over 450 first-time homebuyers. ABCDC held its first virtual Homebuying 101 class in April and our staff has worked tirelessly to collect materials and pivot towards an online platform. Our staff also supports our neighbors with free virtual homebuying, financial, and student loan counseling to create individualized action plans tailored to each client.
- Increase the supply of homes we can afford: While construction projects are halted, ABCDC is continuing to pursue new development projects to increase the supply of affordable housing in our community. We are continuing to push the Hill Memorial Baptist Church project forward which would increase access to affordable homeownership in Allston Brighton and at the same time seeking new
opportunities in the changing real estate landscape.
Housing is the foundation for positive futures. With the support of generous partners like you, we can continue working with our residents and creating a stable, and more equitable neighborhood.
If you have any questions or if you want to make a donation, please contact Sean Tatar at [email protected] or 617-787-3874.
With best wishes and deep gratitude,
John Woods
