Allston Brighton Community Development Corporation

Working together, building community

We are extremely excited to announce that we were recently awarded funding through the new Family Housing Acquisition and Tenancy Preservation Initiative, a part of the Boston Children’s Collaboration for Community Health.  This funding will allow the Allston Brighton Community Development Corporation (ABCDC) to develop a long-term approach to increase the housing stability of families living in affordable housing throughout the Allston Brighton Neighborhood.

Housing is the foundation for positive futures, especially for children and families. According to the Urban Institute, safe, stable, and affordable housing is foundational to a child’s health, development, and long-term success. It provides a secure environment that lowers stress, boosts academic performance, improves physical health by reducing environmental hazards, and fosters better emotional stability. With this funding, ABCDC will partner with the Italian Home for Children (IHC) and other local community partners to create a new Allston Brighton Family Preservation Program.

While there are some services available to support families already in crisis, including rent relief support, these services are fragmented and are not designed to address the root causes of eviction. ABCDC, IHC, and project partners will create a comprehensive tenancy preservation program to support low-to-moderate income (LMI) families across the Allston Brighton neighborhood. Our program will focus on early intervention, prevention, and stabilization for low-income children and families to ensure that they can remain in stable housing for the long-term.

ABCDC will be initiating a series of planning activities with the network of community partners now active in Allston Brighton. Please stay tuned for updates, or contact our Deputy Director, Rachel Regis, as [email protected] with any questions.
